NOT ANOTHER DASHBOARD

A home for the rules that matter.

Harbor turns the hard part of family safety into a calm conversation. Start with a sensible baseline, then make it yours—one understandable setting at a time.

01

START GENTLY

A good first
minute.

Set a policy baseline with safer search preferences, mature-content categories, a bedtime, time limits, and purchase approval options.

02

MAKE ROOM FOR REAL LIFE

Specific when
you need it.

Shape selected bedtime days, per-app limits, site exceptions, spending caps, trusted adults, and useful alerts.

03

KEEP THE KEYS

Guardian
approved.

A guardian PIN protects policy changes. Settings are kept private on the device by default.

THE POLICY, UP CLOSE

Small choices, clearly held.

Harbor’s desktop app is a local place to shape a family policy, review its defaults, and carry a portable copy when a future device agent needs it.

  1. 01

    Start in about a minute

Add a child profile and choose a 6–12 digit guardian PIN. Setup turns protection on with safer search, mature-content filtering, purchase approval, a 120-minute daily limit, and an 8 PM–7 AM bedtime every day.

  2. 02

    Keep the useful defaults

New-site, time-limit, protection-change, and weekly-summary alerts begin enabled. Download approval and location sharing remain off until a guardian deliberately changes them.

  3. 03

    Review, save, export

Changes and policy export require the guardian PIN. Export produces policy JSON without the guardian record, ready for a separately installed integration to consume.

CURRENT CONTROL SURFACES

Every setting has a home.

The control plane keeps broad routines and specific exceptions side by side, rather than hiding them behind a single switch.

Time & bedtime
Daily device time, per-app minutes, an overnight start and end time, selected days, and a guardian pause.
Web & app lists
Safer search, mature-content categories, download approval, plus allowed and blocked sites, blocked apps, and app-specific limits.
Purchases & alerts
Purchase approval and a monthly spending limit; choose new-site, time-limit, protection-change, and weekly-summary alerts.
Family & privacy
Child profile details, trusted adults with email addresses, and an opt-in location-sharing setting for a future installed device agent.

LOCAL BY DESIGN

Kept with the OS user.

Harbor writes family-controls.json in its local app user-data directory with OS-user-only file permissions. The guardian PIN is stored as a salted scrypt hash—not as the PIN itself—and must be verified before policy changes or export.

What does the policy do today?

Today, Harbor validates and evaluates the policy inside its desktop control plane. System-wide app launches, DNS and web filtering, screen locks, and purchase enforcement need separate signed operating-system agents for Windows, macOS, and Linux. Those agents are not included in this release.

HONEST BY DESIGN

A control plane, not a promise it can’t keep.

Harbor includes a validated policy configuration app and policy evaluator. It gives families a clear place to create, review, and export their choices.

Device-wide app blocking, DNS/web filtering, screen locks, and purchase enforcement require separately installed, signed operating-system agents. Those agents are not active in this release—and Harbor will say so until they are independently verified.
